About John Murphy

For four decades, John has been a transformative leader, both in the Kansas City civic community and in the legal industry, where he is best known for his tenure as chairman of Shook, Hardy & Bacon.

Before his retirement from Shook in 2019, he drove significant growth and innovation for the region’s largest law firm, including award-winning diversity and inclusion initiatives, geographic expansion and creative pricing platforms recognized by the Association of Corporate Counsel, among others.

John has been instrumental in the upward trajectory of the Kansas City region through his active involvement with the Kansas City Area Development Council, the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, KC Rising, Starlight Theatre and the United Way of Greater Kansas City.
